How Marque handles your data
Your bookmark library stays in the folder you choose. This page explains what Marque saves on your Mac and when it connects to the internet.

Your library
Marque saves each bookmark as a Markdown file in a folder you choose. The files contain the bookmark URL and the information you add or ask Marque to retrieve, such as its title, description, tags, notes, and folder. You can inspect, copy, back up, move, or edit these files.
Local indexes and images
Marque keeps a local SQLite search index plus cached favicons and preview images to keep the app fast. Your Markdown files remain the source of truth. You can clear the cache in Settings without changing the library, and Marque can rebuild the index from those files.
iCloud Drive
You can place a library in iCloud Drive. In that case, Apple syncs the folder according to your iCloud settings. Marque does not run its own account or sync service.
Network requests
Marque connects to the internet for these product functions:
- Fetching metadata and favicons from a page you save.
- Fetching optional page preview images.
- Checking the Marque software update feed.
Metadata requests use an ephemeral network session and do not intentionally send browser cookies or credentials. Marque blocks local and private network destinations during metadata fetching.
Permissions
Marque needs access to the library folder you select. Quick Capture and Search Marque do not require Accessibility, Input Monitoring, or Screen Recording permission. The optional Share extension uses an App Group to pass links to the main app.
Analytics and accounts
Marque does not require an account and has no product analytics or advertising trackers. Diagnostic information stays on your Mac and does not include bookmark content.
Deleting data
Delete or move your library folder to remove the durable bookmark data. Use Clear Local Cache in Settings to remove the active library's local index and images. Forgetting a library also removes its local cache from that Mac.
